    Arrived in-country 7 Jan 67; off to Korat

    14 Jan 67, two week vacation at Camp USARTHAI ("Club Med"/Korat)
               and off to Po Daeng and "B" Company of the 538th Engineer
               Battalion

    March 67   Promoted to P.F.C. E-3

    July 67    Promoted to SP/4 E-4

    February 68  Promoted to SP/5 E-5 .. 12 months E-2 to E-5!

        MOS:  62E20  Heavy Equipment Operator

        Job Description:  operated 1/4 ton jeeps, Deuce and a halfs, 

        5 Ton MF Dump Trucks, Front end loaders, Cat 830M scrapers, 

        Clark 290M scrapers, Cat 12 graders, bobtails, Cat D7E s, 

        Cat D8s and IH TD24's.

        Primary Location/Unit:  was at Camp Essayons most of the time;

        went TDY to Pak Chong to build the Green Berets an airstrip in 

        March or April of 1967.  I think it was in September or 

        October, 1967 that I went TDY to C Company with a Cat 12 for a 

        couple of months.


    May 68 Rotate home .. leave

    4 Jul 68   Assigned to "Hood" .. Ft. Hood, Texas

               32d Engineer Group .. disbanded February 69

               63d Engineer Battalion until E.T.S. August 69

    Three years in the Army .. call Salem, Oregon "home"
